Sometimes, despite the best planning, the other guy gets in some good shots.
Last August our principal engineer was mobilized as an Army Reservist to be the Officer In Charge of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Gardez Resident Office located at FOB Lightning, Afghanistan. Bart was in charge of $350 million in construction, all of it outside of US bases, spread out over five provinces in eastern Afghanistan. He conducted project management, operations, and intelligence for the region and executed over 200 “outside the wire” missions. While he had several months notification, it was still a relatively short notice deployment.
Unfortunately, shortly after his departure our VP for Business Development, Steven Johnston, was mobilized for stateside duty and our technical staff received outstanding offers as the local engineering economy began to boom once more. Our remaining staff were all “as needed” consultants. It was decided to shut the business down for a few months until Bart returned from duty. His Reserve duty is now commanding a stateside training battalion and is unlikely to go overseas again.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these events. The costs of supporting freedom and the US national interests is not just the sacrifices made by the Regular military, but by the Reserve and Guard troops, family, employers, and for many, their clients.
In the process of adapting to this, we have split our operations between Baton Rouge, La. and Franklin, La. We now have more operational reach and closer ties to our local agricultural, ship building, and offshore industries. We thank you for your support of not just KES, but also our military.
