Kemper Engineering was invited to the inaugural annual Forensic Fest at Baton Rouge’s Science and Engineering magnet high school, Liberty Magnet High School. Bart and Krista Kemper were active at Liberty High (or as it was named then, Lee High), when their youngest son, Zack, attended there. Going back to help share our professional work with his alma mater is just part of our outreach work to be involved in the community.
Liberty Magnet High School represents the diversity of Baton Rouge as a predominantly Black, majority women school with a strong Hispanic and Asian presence along with people of Anglo, Acadian, Creole, Native, and other backgrounds. As a magnet school, family have to apply to be selected to attend. What brings everyone together at Liberty Magnet is an interest in science and engineering. Krista Kemper as owner and mechanical designer, Bart Kemper PE, DFE as a forensic engineer, and Chasity Brown as a technician brought books and published casework to explain the engineer’s role in the civil and criminal process. We were just one of many groups, including a cyber-specific JROTC program, the Baton Rouge Police forensic team, and the Louisiana State Police forensic laboratory to name the groups immediately in our area.
We plan to continue to support this and other local school programs to introduce different aspects of engineering. We also do online sessions for schools and universities that are not in South Louisiana. The more people that find an early interest in engineering, including as designers or technicians, the better we can fill our growing need for creative problem solvers to support and grow our infrastructure, large and small.
