Bart Kemper has been selected to the national-level Task Force on Emerging Technologies, part of the National Society of Professional Engineer’s work to advance the profession as a whole and be one of the main voices in representing engineering as a profession. One of the areas of interest is autonomous equipment and Artificial Intelligence. While autonomous cars are what the public is most aware of, there are airframes, surface vessels, and subsurface vessels operating without direct operator control. Bart’s long-term involvement with Underwater Intervention, coupled with his military experience with UAVs, will allow him to be a strong contributor to the effort. Similarly, his expertise with infrastructure and risk-based assessments are proving to be significant in working with integrating AI systems with conventional systems.
