Bart Kemper visited the Triton Submarines facility in Sebastian, Florida.  Triton is one of the industry partners in the Marine Technology Society (MTS) Manned Underwater Vehicles working group, as is KES.  Bart spent the day discussing various projects prior to the October 2019 meeting for ASME Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy codes and standards meeting.  Triton’s latest venture is the HADAL EXPLORER, which has descended to touch the bottom of five different oceans at hadal depths.   It is the first commercial submarine designed for repeated use to full ocean depth — rated for 13.2 kilometers, or 20% deeper than the known ocean depth. The ASME PVHO Committee members were later given a tour of the facility and talked with committee member Jarl Stromer, one of the lead development professionals at Triton.

UPDATE:  Since this time, the hadal-depth boat has been revealed as the LIMITING FACTOR and has completed the Five Deeps Expedition.

Bart is taking measurements of a PMMA (acrylic) hemisphere as part of a project. KES has been working with industry partners to increase the engineering limits in PVHO viewport design.
