Company president Krista Kemper and principal engineer Bart Kemper, P.E. attended the basic and advanced classes in surface and underground Drilling and Blasting.  The training was held in Elko, Nevada, one of the epicenters for US mining operations.  The training was sponsored by the Missouri College of Science and Technology and put on by RESPEC.

Both Kempers have training and experience in blasting operations from their military expertise.   Krista’s experience is as an Army ammunition specialist who, while in Somalia, was part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal mission to reduce the Soviet-era bunkers full of “sweating” munitions.  Bart is a career Army engineer, which has included command of a mechanized combat engineer company as well as standing up and commanding a Explosive Hazards Coordination Cell, both of which require their troops to be proficient in explosive demolition, minefield clearing, and IED (boobytrap) clearing.  His combat tours were in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As part of Kemper Engineering Services, they have leveraged their expertise for civilian blast hazard mitigation, such as modeling topsides blasts in petrochemical and drilling operations as well as anti-terrorism planning.   KES also designs protective structures to protect from blast and missile (flying object) hazards. Both Kempers are members of the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE).  As KES becomes more involved with mining and construction blasting, the leadership sought out additional training as part of KES’ commitment to supporting our clients using up-do-date methods and information.

Kemper Engineering Services is unaffiliated with 2K Software, the Borderlands video game franchise, or the character Tiny Tina.  Honest.

The company’s Blasting Bunny is serious about learning about explosives and blasting, just in case there is a tea party.

Krista is at the Bonneville Salt Flats en route to Elko, Nevada. She is thinking about how she wants to build the world’s fastest steam-driven car and set the record on the salt flats. Blasting Bunny is looking at the mountains thinking they could use some trimming.
