Our newest intern, Alexis San Miguel, went out on site with Bart Kemper to evaluate equipment damaged during the 2021 Hurricane Ida at the New Orleans Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).  This facility was designed to withstand hurricanes in response to Hurricane Katrina and others storms, which opened in December 2016While the medical center’s structures handled the 2021 storm, the VA is contracting assessments and possible improvements. Lachin Architects, who are also a fellow Veteran-Owned Small Business, are the prime contractors for this federal project and coordinating the multi-discipline team, of which KES is part of.  This was Alexis’ first time in the field with KES, which took her from the basement of the building all the way up to the roof to help gather measurements and other data needed.

She has finished her second year in LSU’s Mechanical Engineering program. Using her prior training in Solidworks, Alexis was able to immediately participate in ongoing projects.  We hope to have Alexis as part of our team through the rest of her college career and possibly afterwards.
