Bart Kemper P.E., our principal engineer, spent the morning of Nov. 3 with LSU students in the Engineering Capstone program. This is an interdisciplinary 2 semester course that challenges the students with real world engineering and project management. KES often provides guest lecturers to the program in addition to being part of the Industry Panel. This lecture was about engineering codes and standards, ranging from engineering society-sponsored ones like ASME, ASCE, API, and IEEE codes to MIL-SPEC and MIL-STD to regulations such as CFRs and local ordinances. You have to know what “right looks like” before starting. Understanding and knowing how to apply these codes are critical to successful engineering work.
