Working with Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Louisiana (MEPOL), KES has assisted many companies explore new products and product developments. One of these is Bioceptive, a company with a novel method to reliably and safely insert birth control devices through the vagina and properly place it into the uterus while reducing the medical need for advanced training. The intent is to reduce financial overhead and make the devices more affordable without compromising safety or health.
On Nov. 15, 2016 the project was awarded an 8th patent, US Patent 9,492,312, “Methods and apparatus for inserting a device or pharmaceutical into a body cavity.” Krista Wohlfeil (Krista Kemper) and Clarence B. (Bart) Kemper are two of the inventors.
KES’ original scope was the develop a working demonstration prototype for an important meeting. In the process of our work, we identified key improvements to the device. We approached Ben Cappiello and SK Khurana with these improvements and they agreed they wanted to include these ideas in their patents. We signed over all our rights to these improvements without any additional payment, either at the time or in terms of royalties. We want our clients to succeed and will give extra consideration to those in start-up.
Product development is often a long, uncertain road, and moreso the more novel the product. Our reduced rates with MEPOL is part of how we give back and help others innovate and grow. We wish Brian, SK, and everyone at Bioceptive all the best fortune and true success in realizing their dreams.
