LSU Capstone Engineering Design program is a major part of KES’ volunteer work.   Undergraduates generally have little industry work experience.  The Industry Panel brings in engineers, mostly LSU alums, from many industries and background to provide critique, feedback, and mentoring.

Not only do the full time KES engineers Bart Kemper and Linda Cross volunteer, so do our consultants Prof. AJ McPhate and John Weaver.   We also met one of our clients’ engineers, Stephen Calverly of A Plus Corporation.  Stephen is also an LSU alum who got to see the process “from the other side” for the first time.

Engineering is more than just doing math.  It is using creativity to design a solution, then determining which engineering principles to apply.   The Industry Panel helps coach the students along the process as part of the Capstone program, giving many their first opportunity to apply their education in a comprehensive manner.

Prof. AJ McPhate and Linda Cross evaluate the three LSU entries into the "Bengal Bot Brawl". The competition was held prior to the Capstone presentations.

The Capstone poster session was held for the first time in the atrium of the new LSU Engineering Building.
